Transparent Overlays for YouTube Shorts

Shorts need fast hooks and readable graphics. Generate vertical subscribe CTAs, kinetic text, and stickers with true transparency, then composite on your 9:16 edit.

Shorts overlay workflow

Before you start

  • A Videohead account
  • CapCut Desktop or Premiere Pro (recommended for alpha video)
  • 9:16 Shorts footage on your timeline
  • Export WebM or MOV with alpha from Videohead
  1. 1.

    Describe a vertical overlay

In Videohead, prompt for a Shorts-friendly layout—e.g. compact subscribe CTA bottom-center, vertical kinetic text, or a small promo badge. Mention 9:16 or vertical in your description so the composition fits a phone frame.

  2. 2.

    Preview and tune copy

Adjust text, colors, and timing in the browser. Shorts overlays should be bold and readable in the first seconds—keep copy short and contrast high.

  3. 3.

    Export with alpha

Download WebM or MOV with transparency. Up to 1080p is enough for most Shorts delivery.

  4. 4.

    Import into your editor

Add the file to CapCut Desktop or Premiere Pro. See our CapCut import guide if you need step-by-step instructions.

  5. 5.

    Place above your Shorts clip

Put the overlay on a track above your main video. Align it with the hook or CTA moment—often the first 3 seconds or the final frame before the loop.

  6. 6.

    Export your Short

Export 9:16 from your editor as usual. The alpha layer composites with your footage. No green screen required.

Or start from the Short-Form Viral Kit

You do not have to prompt from scratch. The Short-Form Viral Kit bundles ready-made vertical overlays: subscribe CTAs, kinetic text, and stickers built for Shorts.

Preview the full set, remix any overlay into your workspace, adjust copy and colors, then export with alpha and follow the import steps above.

Tips

Switch the canvas node to 9:16

On the create canvas, open View on your overlay node and choose 9:16. The preview frame matches a Shorts aspect ratio.

Keep it minimal

One clear graphic beats three competing stickers on a small screen.

Reuse brand kits

Lock colors and style so every Short in a series matches your channel look.

Match duration

Trim the overlay clip on the timeline if the animation runs longer than you need.

Generate your Shorts overlay

Describe a vertical CTA or text animation and export with transparency for your next Short.
