Before you start
- A Videohead account
- A short vertical or landscape clip (up to 60 seconds, max 100 MB)
- A modern browser (analysis starts on your device)
- CapCut Desktop, Premiere, or another editor that supports alpha video (for final composite)

Upload your short
Open the video-to-overlays path in Videohead (linked from the canvas start screen as a Beta option). Drop a short under 60 seconds. Your file stays on your device for local analysis—we do not upload the full video to our servers.

Let AI analyze the clip
Videohead reads what happens in your short—what is said, what is on screen, and the overall energy—so the overlays that come next fit the moment instead of fighting the video.

Review the brief and pick a goal
Confirm what the clip is about and choose a goal—educate, promote, personal brand, entertain, and more. That steers which overlay types and tones Videohead suggests next.

Accept timed overlay suggestions
Videohead proposes overlays synced to your dialogue and structure—hooks, CTAs, lower thirds, kinetic text, and similar graphics—with timing and layout. Keep, tweak, or drop suggestions before generating.

Generate overlays into a kit
Generate the accepted overlays. Videohead builds a shared kit look from the plan, then opens your kit timeline on the canvas with the short as background so you can preview graphics on the real video.

Export with alpha and composite
Export WebM or MOV with transparency, then place the overlays above your original clip in CapCut, Premiere, or DaVinci. Follow our CapCut import guide if you need the NLE steps.
Analyze your video vs describing overlays yourself
Use this path when you already have a clip and want timed suggestions from what was said and shown. It is the fastest route from a bare short to a kit of overlays.
Use the canvas and describe overlays when you know exactly what graphic you want, you are starting from a reference image, or you need Plus-tier art direction without analyzing a clip first. You can always mix both: generate from your video, then refine or add overlays by prompt.
Tips
Your video stays on your device
Local analysis runs in the browser. Servers receive a compact summary of speech and still frames for suggestions and generation—not the full video file—so you stay in control of the original clip.
Shorts-length clips work best
This flow is built for clips up to 60 seconds. Longer edits should be trimmed to the moment you want overlays on before you upload.
Clear audio improves suggestions
Clean speech produces better timed CTAs and text overlays. Loud music-only clips with no dialogue get weaker suggestions.
Busy frames need quieter placements
If a face fills the frame or captions are already burned in, prefer suggestions that use lower-third-safe or top placements so graphics stay readable.
Preview on the real clip
After generate, open the kit timeline with your short as background. Check timing against the dialogue before you export with alpha.
